Archive Studio & Toolbox
Local onlyCreate, browse, extract, encrypt, convert, and inspect archives locally.
Drop files, folders, or an archive
Build a new archive or safely browse an existing ZIP, 7z, RAR, TAR, GZIP, BZIP2, or XZ file.
ZIP · 7z · RAR · TAR · GZIP · BZIP2 · XZ · large files depend on browser memory and disk APIs
RAR creation, password recovery, malware scanning, self-extracting EXE files, and guaranteed damaged-archive repair are deliberately not offered.
How to use it
- 01
Add files or open an archive
Drop local files and folders to build a new archive, or open an existing ZIP, 7z, RAR, TAR, or GZIP file.
- 02
Review content and safety
Browse a virtualized directory tree, preview safe files, choose entries, and inspect paths, ratios, encryption, and archive-bomb risks.
- 03
Create or extract locally
Compress with ZIP AES, TAR, or TAR.GZ, or extract selected content to a folder without sending files to a server.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. Archive parsing, compression, preview, safety checks, and extraction run in this browser. Files are not sent to Nobuf.
Which formats are supported?
ZIP is the primary read/write format. TAR and TAR.GZ can be created. 7z, RAR, GZIP, BZIP2, XZ, and related formats use an on-demand local WebAssembly reader and can vary by compression method.
Can it open RAR files?
It can browse and extract many RAR 4 and RAR 5 files locally after the extension engine loads. Proprietary or unusual methods may remain unsupported.
Why can it not create RAR files?
RAR creation uses a proprietary algorithm and licensing model. Nobuf does not disguise another format with a .rar extension.
Does it support password-protected ZIP files?
Yes. It can create AES-256 ZIP files and open supported encrypted archives. Passwords remain in memory only and are cleared after the task.
Can it process very large archives?
ZIP uses streaming and Workers where available. Direct folder saving depends on File System Access support. Extended 7z and RAR parsing is memory-bound by its WebAssembly engine.
What is an archive bomb?
It is a small archive that expands to an unexpectedly large amount of data. Nobuf enforces entry, output-size, path, and compression-ratio budgets before and during extraction.
Why can some browsers not save a complete folder?
Direct directory writing requires File System Access APIs that are not available everywhere. The fallback downloads one file or repackages selected files as ZIP.
