Frequently asked questions

Does a valid credential prove an image is true?

No. Validation establishes cryptographic integrity and recorded provenance claims. It does not prove that the depicted event or every claim is factually true.

What does absent mean?

No readable C2PA manifest was found for the selected supported asset. Absence is different from an invalid manifest and does not itself indicate manipulation.

Why can trust differ between viewers?

Trust results depend on configured trust lists, certificate policy, SDK version and available verification context. The checker preserves the returned status details instead of reducing them to a trust badge.

Is media uploaded for verification?

No. The official C2PA reader, hashing and metadata inspection run from same-origin browser assets. No media bytes are sent to a service.
