Where does the earthquake data come from?
The browser requests USGS Earthquake Hazards Program real-time GeoJSON summary feeds directly. Results are cached briefly and labeled when a stale fallback is shown.
Is this an earthquake prediction or early-warning service?
No. It displays already reported catalog events and cannot predict earthquakes or guarantee time-critical alerts. Follow official local emergency and warning systems.
What does the tsunami flag mean?
It is a USGS product flag associated with an event, not a local evacuation order or a complete tsunami forecast. Use official tsunami authorities for action.
Do notifications work after I close the page?
No. This static tool can notify only while the page remains open, the browser allows notifications, auto-refresh is enabled, and a newly fetched event meets your threshold.
